We start our podcast off with a new segment called Tumblr Ethnographies. Vy decided to go down the rabbit hole that is tumblr and explore the world of “otherkin.” We discuss the different ideas behind otherkin, the origins, its history, and how the community has evolved over the years. We discuss how the language about otherkin has co-opted language from various activist circles and what that means. In Nerd news of the week, we discuss the Han Solo movie and the loss of directors. We share our reservations about some casting before moving on to discuss the controversy regarding the Philando Castille verdict and the tragedy of the young Muslim girl Nabra. This leads us to a discussion on implicit bias, cultural racism, and the consequences of prejudice.
