As part of our ongoing tradition of recapping Game of Thrones we start the episode off with an interesting discussion about episode 3 of the season. ***Spoiler Alert*** We cover the basic narrative of the episode and focus in on some of the major problems of the season so far, the ham-fisted, lazy writing and violence towards women and children to titilate. We talk about the depictions of that violence and the problems with that. We ponder about the Great Northern Conspiracy and predict that the show will botch it up in favor of a shortcut into more violence and shock tactics. In particular we focus on how Ramsay has been made into a supervillain. We also talk about some of the more subversive aspects of the books which are only hinted at in the show; which Ali argues are the real intervention into the genre of fantasy and those are the relationship between the gods and magic and the relationship between memory and history. Ali puts forth a theory about both. Finally we talk about Captain America Civil War questioning the motives of Captain America, what it reveals about morality and ethics, and review the movie.
